NCDS: Jon Borovich, Asst. Coach - Dayton ("Thank you Dan Fox")

By: Jon Borovich, Asst. Coach - Dayton

Dan Fox, one of our senior walk-ons can be defined in many ways.  Some  might say hard working.  Some might say selfless.  I like to simply say, "A great teammate".

I can remember the first time I met Dan Fox as if it were yesterday.  I  had just recently been hired back at the University of Dayton in August of  2007.  Coach Gregory wanted me to watch the first few individual workouts  from the stands and really study our guys.

As I sat in the first row of UD Arena watching the perimeter players begin their workout with ball  handling somebody immediately stood out.  I literally had been observing  the workout for 90 seconds when I heard loud grunting and saw sweat  pouring off of an individual's practice jersey.  It was Dan Fox and he was  doing a ball handling drill with so much passion, such a high level of  intensity that 90 seconds into the drill he was already in a full sweat. I  wrote down on my notepad: #30 extremely hard worker.  Two minutes later I wrote down: #30 very passionate about the game.  I thought to myself, this kid isn't going to make it past the first 10 minutes of this workout. He's going to pass out.  Sure enough 20 minutes later I wrote down: #30 workhorse, tireless.  Not only did #30 not stop working at an unbelievably  high level of intensity during the workout, he was talking to his teammates, motivating his teammates, encouraging his teammates every step of the way.

As the workout came to an end it became very clear to me that we had  something really special here at Dayton.  Dan Fox was special.  Dan Fox was and continues to be A Great Teammate.

Dan Fox will be graduating from the University of Dayton this May with a degree in Applied Mathematical Economics.  Although his stat line might not catch anybody's eye, those that know him and have seen the impact that  he has had on our program truly know how valuable he has been during his four year career.  We are all going to miss Dan's toughness, work ethic, desire to improve and ability to positively impact those that he comes in  contact with each day.

Dan is a great friend, excellent student and a Flyer through and through.  His impact on our program can't merely be measured in points or rebounds but rather floor burns, hustle plays and the will to win.

Thank You Dan Fox.  You are one of the all-time great teammates.

Go Flyers!
