NCDS: Jerome Tang, Asst. Coach - Baylor

Wow, what a season and its not over! I'm actually on
the team bus driving to Houston for the Sweet Sixteen. Last
year we made a run like this in the NIT, but this is the Big
Dance and our guys are focused and hungry.
We started our run winning our final final games of the Big 12
season including beating Texas on senior night. We tied for second
in the Big 12 (highest finish in Baylor history) and opened up
the conference championship with a first round bye (also the first
in Baylor history). As luck would have it, our second round
opponent was Texas. Having swept Texas during the regular
season, we knew beating any good team three times in one
season would be very difficult... and it was, but our guys were
determined, we got a big win and advanced to the semifinals of the
Big 12 championship ... We lost a very tough battle to Kansas
State.
We had a Selection Sunday watch party at the Ferrell Center
where about 1000 people celebrated as Baylor received a three
seed in the South Region ... Highest in school history. But what
made it even more special was that the first two rounds were
in New Orleans, Louisiana, where both Tweety Carter and
LaceDarius Dunn are from. They were extremely excited to go
home and play in front of their families. We played a very
good Sam Houston State team in the first round and then an
extremely talented Old Dominion team in the second round. We
are very excited about both wins.
Right now we are focused on St Mary's and the opportunity to
play in Houston, the hometown of Anthony Jones and the place
where both Paul Mills (assistant coach) and I started our coaching
careers as high school coaches. Looking forward to what God
has in store for us this week.
In His Court
Jerome Tang
