« Previous EntriesStaff Predictions: Xavier @ Saint Joseph’s
Wednesday, March 5th, 2008This week, we at College Chalktalk tackle a huge game as the Musketeers travel to Philly, tomorrow night, to face a Saint Joseph’s team in need of a signature win to keep their fading NCAA Tournament hopes alive.
To recap last week: No Staff member successfuly chose both games, as Rhode Island hit rock bottom in Foggy Bottom. Andrew assumes the top spot, with a 5-2 record overall, by virtue of his LaSalle over Fordham prediction. Chris and Brendan also chose the Explorers to each earn a split last week. Christian and Jason… didn’t fair so well.
To this week -

Andrew:
(Record: 5-2)
The Musketeers get caught looking ahead to the post-season. The Hawks use the experience gained from their first meeting with Xavier, along with the home crowd, to propel them to victory. A monster win on national television.
HAWKS 78, Musketeers 70

It is very tough to pick against Xavier at this point in the season. They have clinched the A-10 regular season title, won 11 games in a row, and are ranked 8th nationally. They now face a Saint Joe’s team that has tried to help their NCAA resume by losing two home games in a row. Not good.
Staff Predictions: LU @ FU & URI @ GW
Wednesday, February 27th, 2008We’re coming down the home stretch of the A-10 season and, this week, we will be predicting two games, rather than just one. First, a solid match-up between a LaSalle team that has been playing quite well and a veteran Fordham squad that has won three of four. Next, a reeling URI team travels to the Smith Center to face a GW squad that recently tripped up Richmond.
But first… a recap of last week. CDD predicted he’d return this week at 3-2, rather than 4-1, after taking a flier on Duquesne over Xavier. No surprise. He begins the week 3-2 as a result of Xavier’s destruction of the Dukes. All others chose the Muskies and were rewarded.
Let’s move forward to this week’s predictions:

(Record: 4-1)
LaSalle @ Fordham: Love the way the Explorers have been playing as of late. With that said, I feel like Fordham is going to come ready to play at home and notch a ‘W’.
RAMS 67, Explorers 61
Rhode Island @ George Washington: Ram fans might be ready to jump off the Newport Bridge with a fifth straight loss. Instead, though, they will be jumping back on the bandwagon as the Rams keep their slimming NCAA tournament hopes alive with a close win in Foggy Bottom.
Staff Predictions: Duquesne @ Xavier
Wednesday, February 20th, 2008We kick off Week 5 of ‘Staff Predictions’ by, once again, selecting a game involving two teams for which we have never previously predicted a game this season. We’re also joined by, PH, one of our readers who will offer a guest prediction for this week’s game, a Thursday night tilt.
Recap from last week - Every member of the College Chalktalk Staff was correct in predicting Saint Louis over George Washington; not that it required going out on a limb given GW’s struggles on the road this year. The better news is that everyone is now at .500 or better after four games. We’ll see where this week takes us…

(Record: 3-1)
I am a big fan of the job that Ron Everhart is doing with Duquesne. But they still lack consistency. Two games ago they get a big win at Dayton, but then return home and lay an egg against Richmond, scoring only 66 points in the loss. Does this mean they are now primed for an upset win? I don’t think so. They are heading into the teeth of the buzzsaw that has been the Xavier Musketeers. The Muskies are 14-1 in their last 15 games, and head back home after two hard fought road wins. I don’t see a letdown here.
Staff Predictions: George Washington @ Saint Louis
Wednesday, February 13th, 2008It’s week four of ’Staff Predictions’ on College Chalktalk. With three weeks under the belt, records are starting to take shape and requests are coming in that they be displayed. You ask, we deliver.
Tonight’s featured A-10 match-up is George Washington @ Saint Louis, otherwise known as a shot at redemption for the Billikens.

I can’t guarantee I’ll pick the winner of this one, but I can guarantee you this: these two teams will score more than 69 total points in this game. That of course was the total amount of points scored in their first meeting this season, a 49-20 epic won by the Colonials. In the rematch, look for the Billikens to return the favor and hand GW a loss on the road. Saint Louis has actually been playing some better basketball lately, coming off a rare road win at Richmond. GW just earned a surprising home win against a struggling Dayton side. That win, however, snapped a seven game losing streak for the men from Foggy Bottom. I don’t see Karl Hobbs and Co. taking the winning streak to two in the Gateway City.
SAINT LOUIS 68, George Washington 57

Staff Predictions: Charlotte @ Dayton
Wednesday, February 6th, 2008It’s week three of our Staff Predictions, and we’ll actually give you two this week. One pick will be our traditional A-10 Wednesday night selection, which will be Charlotte against Dayton. We will also give you our quick picks on one of college basketball’s best rivalries, Duke against North Carolina.
First, let’s take a quick review of last week’s picks in the St. Bonaventure @ LaSalle match-up. Andrew, Christian, and JMR all picked LaSalle to essentially roll. They all ended up being quite right, as LaSalle demolished the Bonnies, 84-61. B-10 and CDD decided to roll the dice with the Bonnies, and Mark Schmidt’s boys let them down in a big way.
Let’s see what the staff thinks about tonight’s featured A-10 tilt, the ‘Niners against the Flyers, and we will see who the boys pick in the battle of Tobacco Road, as the Blue Devils head to the Dean Dome to take on the ‘Heels…

Andrew:
Dayton has lost 4 of their last 5 games. Their one win in that stretch was against St. Louis. In that game, the Billikens shot 36.8 percent from the floor. I think this is a tight game. Charlotte averages 70.4 points a game and Dayton averages 70.1 points a game. The 49ers get the ’W’ on the road.
